The replacement of the industry's most popular modulator,HD-1603, accepts a 4K signal and will loop-through that same signal, however, modulated signal is still limited to 1080P, due to the limitations with TV tuners.

We have been testing the new Q4K-R1 for months now, while the Q4K-R1 is not the first 4K modulator on the market, it's the first stable 4K modulator. Like the HD1603, the Q4K-R1 supports Resi-linx IR targets and emitters. Resi-linx are the market leader in both IR and modulation and the only brand to have Foxtel approved product in both fields.

This unit has full menu via LCD display, improved MER resulting in higher quality picture and is configurable for New Zealand. Q4K-R1 allows you to distribute any HD source around your home/business installation over coax cable and control with ease.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

  • If you have connected the Q4K-R1 to your system and lost free to air (FTA) TV reception, then read-on.
The difference in FTA signal and the Modulator output can have a detrimental effect on your FTA reception. You can attenuate the signal using the blue and white dial at the back of the modulator. In rare cases, this may not fully fix the issue. In this case, we can send you (free of charge) an attenuator that screws on to the RF output of the modulator.
  • I'm only getting 720p on my modulated signal
The Q4K-R1 was designed primarily for use with Foxtel IQ4 boxes. Because of the non-industry standard Foxtel has decided to use on their 4K channels, the Q4K-R1 defaults to 720p output on its modulated signal for better stability when modulating Foxtel 4K channels. If this is not a concern, or you are not using a Foxtel IQ4 as your source, then you can easily change the default output to 1080p – in the modulator resolution options simply set the resolution to "Same as input". Remember, the above only applies to the modulated signal. The HDMI loop-out retains the original Foxtel signal.
  • I've lost audio through the HDMI loop-through port, how do I fix it?
The most common reason is due to "Automatic" resolution or output settings on your HDMI input device (i.e. Foxtel, AV receiver, etc.). Go into the display output or resolution settings menu on your device, and choose a manual resolution (720p, 1080p, 4K, etc.). You may also want to change the audio output on your device to PCM or 2.0ch PCM too.
